Villa Catignano

Villa Catignano - Beautiful Tuscan villa in the countryside

Villa Catignano is a villa and farmhouse that we have booked for the weekend of our wedding, you are welcome to arrive from 4pm on Thursday 23rd, and we have the site until 10am on Monday 27th. The Villa is a 15 minute drive from Siena, in the rolling hills of Tuscany!

Accomodation is provided for all guests for the weekend of the wedding. The only cost is the tourist tax which is a few euros (around 3) per person per day, we need to collect this from guests and make the payment in full to the Villa and will share more info on this closer to the wedding.

The accommodation consists of individual self catering apartments that include fully equipped kitchens so you can spend 4 days on site if you wish! Linens and a towel are also provided, but you may want to bring an extra towel for the pool if you prefer.

Closer to the wedding we will allocate apartments and inform the team at Villa Catignano so they can check you in. Check-in is from 4pm-7pm, if your travel means you will arrive outside of these hours, please let us know so the Villa can make arrangements for you.

There is a pool on site, and the vast grounds have lots of lovely spots to explore, relax, and socialise - there's more than enough space for us to celebrate!

Cots and aircon are available to purchase for the weekend - we'll double check the pricing and add this here.

Travel

Flights

Trains and highways between Italian cities are so well connected that you can generally fly anywhere, depending on what type of trip you want to have.

If you're coming to Italy just for the wedding, then the easiest options would be flying to Pisa, Florence or Bologna as these are closest.

In Italy

To arrive to the Villa, there's plenty of transport options.

By train

Arriving from the north, Siena by train is around 1hour from Florence or Pisa, we've used the train from both and it's well connected.

If coming from the north, you may need to change at Empoli - it's a local station with only two platforms, so the change is straight forward.

You can also arrive from the south for example if coming from Rome - this uses the rural train network so takes longer and can require multiple changes, but will have great views coming right through Tuscany.

Train travel in Italy is reasonably priced, particularly if booked over a month or two in advance.

For local routes use the Trenitalia website, you can switch it to English and your tickets will be emailed to you.

If you are travelling between Italy's main cities, e.g. flying to Milan then visiting Florence, then I'd recommend looking at Italotren for the high-speed trains, which reduces that journey to less than 2hours, and again is very reasonable when booked ahead.

If getting a taxi from the station, there is a rank outside. Taxis are fixed price as you leave the Siena city boundary, they cost 35euro for a 4 seater, or 50 euro for a larger taxi.

By bus

Flixbus run regular routes to Siena train station from all major Italian cities, particularly frequent and quicker from Rome than the train, and is also the cheapest option.

By car

There's plenty space for parking at the Villa, so there's no limit on how many cars people bring.

Siena is well connected by the highway, the drive would be an hour from Florence or Pisa, a couple of hours from Bologna, and less than 3 hours from Rome.

We did a Tuscany trip a few years ago, and found the roads and parking in the towns pretty straight forward - public transport across the Tuscan hills is limited so if you want to explore Tuscany then a car would be necessary.

For any travel recommendations or general Italian holiday inspiration, then let us know - we've done lots of Italy trips and a Tuscan driving holiday in 2022, so happy to help with anything you might need.

The local area

Siena, Tuscany - Beautiful medieval city and countryside

Siena is a beautiful small city in Tuscany, and the Villa is located in the hills about 15 minutes away. If you haven't visited Siena before, we'd really recommend it - it's a UNESCO world heritage site, the piazza del campo is really something else, and as it's so small you can experience the charm of the city in just a few hours.

For stocking up for the wedding weekend, there is a good size supermarket called Pam at the train station, located inside the shopping centre attached to the station - you could definitely get everything you need there, it's maybe the size of an Aldi/Lidl. There is also a 'big' supermarket called Coop about a 10min walk away from the station. We'd recommend doing a shop on your way to the Villa and stocking up on food & drink for the weekend.

There is a village a few km from the Villa - the local pizzeria delivers to the Villa for group orders of more than 8 pizzas.

Amongst groups it may be helpful and cheaper to have a car to do top up shops over the weekend if you need, and to go to and from Siena if you want to explore.

We can also help link people up with cars if anyone is stuck and needs a hand.

The Wedding

We are looking forward to spending time with our guests and celebrating our wedding with you! We want the weekend to be fun and relaxed - think holiday vibes with a wedding thrown in on the Saturday!

You are welcome to spend as much or as little time at the Villa as you wish, we just want you to enjoy yourselves!

On the Thursday evening we'll arrange some games in the evening so we can catch up with everyone, and introduce guests to anyone you might not know - it'll just be a bit of fun, and an opportunity for Caitlin to let her hair down, as she'll need an early night on the Friday before the big day!

Our wedding is on the Saturday, the ceremony will be in the gardens of the Villa around 4 or 5pm, followed by a cocktail reception, and then an Italian feast with wine and limoncello flowing!

Dancing and more drinks will follow! We'll supply drinks after the meal, but depending on how much we party, it may be BYOB in the later hours!

Dress code is whatever you feel comfortable in - it's likely to be hot even though the wedding will be later in the day! Shorts, sandals, and outfit changes all welcome if that's what you want! Rich will wear a linen suit if that helps with inspiration!
